Petra and Ren are two researchers sealed inside a lab deep in Prometheon Station, trapped alongside Voss’s orb behind a locked door that floods with a corrosive gas on a fixed schedule. Petra talks to the crew through the porthole using a notepad pressed to the glass, since neither side can hear the other over the intercom. By her own count, she’s died to the gas twenty times, watching the same short window reset over and over with no memory of the crew having ever come before.
She explained that the station’s gas is tied to a dead man’s switch: the station’s CEO, Saren, has to personally clear it from his office terminal every day, and nobody has been able to since he vanished when the loop began. She pointed the crew toward his office as the only way to stop it, and toward The Listeners who run the station as the ones who might know why any of this is happening. Ren, more frantic and single-minded than Petra, cared about only one thing: getting the gas turned off, telling the crew to forget the rest of what’s happening in the station and focus there first.
On the loop where the crew finally reached Saren’s terminal, Felix made the call to trigger the gas himself rather than wait, in order to force through the access he needed. Petra and Ren appeared to die in the resulting blast, for real this time, over Thorne’s objection.
They turned out to be alive again on the station’s final loop (Ep 33): the reset that followed their apparent deaths undid it along with everything else, and they introduced themselves by name for the first time once the crew finally bashed back into the lab. Ren warned that the void energy eating into the station would reach Voss’s orb that loop and collapse the sector for good if nothing changed. When the horde broke in and the room began venting to vacuum, Petra strapped on an emergency rebreather, then went back to patch the holes in Felix’s ruined suit by hand, exposing herself to the open vacuum in the process; her fate afterward was left unresolved on-air. Ren sealed the lab door from the outside to buy the others time, and was not seen again before the loop ended.
