The Listeners are a faction of gas-masked Void Cultists who run the labor and security side of Prometheon Station day to day, backed by an army of shambling Unhallowed. Identifiable by matching long black coats, gas masks, and thigh-high rubber boots, members carry crowbars. Their leader, Sabien, described the group as being “part of the same thread that runs throughout life.”
When the crew first boarded the station (Ep 31), Listeners tracked them through the corridors and eventually confronted them near a barricaded section alongside a horde of Unhallowed. Sabien approached Haleyy directly, telling her “I know that you are already contacted with the void,” and tried to recruit both her and Thorne, insisting they were already “with us.” Haleyy refused and knocked him unconscious. A firefight with other Listeners and combat drones followed in a sealed lab holding Voss.
Across the time loop that followed (Ep 32), Sabien specifically singled out Haleyy and Thorne for recruitment on repeat attempts, dying twice in the process: once shot on sight after introducing himself, and once found already dead outside the station’s admin wing, killed along with four other Listeners by Viktor Strake as an unsolicited favor to the crew, a note reading “you’re welcome” left on the bodies. Whether the Listeners answer to Strake or Prometheon Technologies, or operate independently inside the station, is unconfirmed.
On the station’s final loop (Ep 33), with the gyroscope pulling the station apart, Sabien reported that the Listeners had lost all control of the Unhallowed horde to the gyroscope itself, and asked to team up with the crew rather than fight them. He was shot dead by Robert during the push to free Voss, this time for good, and the Listeners’ hold over the station ended along with the loop itself when The Concordant pacified the horde entirely.
