Prometheon Station is a facility tied to Virodyne Labs, first glimpsed by the crew through a portal opened by the Paracausal Bifurcation Array (the Fork) at Exosite 34b on Sibylen. When Voss activated the device, a window opened across space showing a massive structure: five interlocking rings arranged like a celestial gyroscope, with a long rod through its center. Robert recognized it on sight and called out its name, though he did not explain how he knew it. The window then showed a distant blue light that multiplied into diamond shapes as it drew near. Haleyy screamed and collapsed unconscious as the vision hit (Ep 18).
The station’s deeper significance, and how Robert knew its name, went unexplained for many episodes afterward. It resurfaced concretely when the crew infiltrated the secret Virodyne routing station Causeway 3: transit logs there confirmed that Strake’s ship, the Acceptable Loss, had delivered the captured Voss to Prometheon Station (Ep 28), the first hard confirmation of her location since her capture. A deeper layer of the same records showed that the Omnitek data vault, carrying Petey’s digitized consciousness, had also been routed toward Prometheon Station years earlier and never returned. The crew obtained the drill path to Prometheon Station from Causeway 3’s database before fleeing under pursuit (Ep 29).
The crew finally arrived after an eighteen-day transit (Ep 31), dropping out to see the gyroscope up close for the first time: three of its five rings still turning, two locked dead, void energy sparking and raging where a moving ring passes a frozen one. Below it sits the station itself, with The Acceptable Loss docked against its flank and a dozen Virodyne warships hanging dead in formation further out. The station let the Scapegoat dock without requesting a single code, and the outer ring corridor beyond the airlock was eerily empty of people despite clear signs of recent activity: running environmentals, an unlocked terminal, a still-warm cup of coffee, motion-sensor lights.
A shipboard map obtained through a public data port showed two data centers, a laboratory wing, and several sections marked only “restricted.” Exploring toward the security office, the crew fought off a pair of automated combat drones and picked up a mass-transit tram system to save time. They also picked up a tail: a masked group calling themselves the Listeners, and behind them a horde of Unhallowed pouring out from a barricaded section of the station. Fleeing the horde, the crew crossed a catwalk over an open-air laboratory and spotted Viktor Strake watching them from a glassed-in control room, who taunted them over the local radio before letting them keep running.
The chase ended at a sealed lab holding Voss, wired to a pedestal, guarded by two researchers who tried to warn the crew before dying to a burst of noxious gas released into their own room. A pitched fight followed in the cramped space against drones, Listeners, and the encroaching Unhallowed horde, leaving Felix at 0 HP before a Lazarus patch from Thorne saved him. As the horde finally broke through the door, the scene reset without warning: the crew found themselves back on the Scapegoat’s bridge, 45 minutes out from the station, with full memory of everything that had just happened. Prometheon Station turned out to be caught in, or generating, a time loop.
Reliving the same stretch of hours over and over with their memories intact (Ep 32), the crew slowly mapped the station and learned that the gas trap protecting Voss and her two researcher guards runs on a dead man’s switch only the station’s CEO can clear from his own office. The station turned out to be run day to day by the Listeners, a faction of gas-masked Void Cultists led by Sabien, with an army of shambling Unhallowed serving as their labor and security force; Viktor Strake was also present, trapped in the same loop and working an agenda of his own rather than the Listeners’. On the loop the crew finally pushed all the way into the CEO’s office, they learned the gas is tied to that dead man’s switch, found a photograph tying the CEO, Saren, directly to Strake, and recovered a data chip full of files on Project Red Wing. Felix forced the gas himself to buy time, killing the two trapped researchers for real, then disconnected Voss from the station’s rig against her own warning just as the loop reset again.
The final loop (Ep 33) was visibly different from the start: the gyroscope was pulling the station apart one ring at a time, with whole sections of the outer ring already chewed away and dissolved. The crew made a last push to free Voss for good, splitting between the admin office and the lab while Sabien tagged along, having lost all control of the horde to the gyroscope itself. Strake ambushed Thorne at the admin door and the two fought to the death over the terminal as the office wall tore open into vacuum, Strake going down for good with no clone left to replace him. In the lab, Petra and Ren (alive again, the earlier loop’s reset having undone their deaths) helped Felix complete the orb swap under fire from the horde, and the new orb woke as a chorus voice calling itself The Concordant, which pacified the entire horde at once. This time, the loop didn’t reset.
In the aftermath, a Novacrypt fleet cruiser investigating the station’s critical energy readings found it abandoned and claimed the system outright, setting up shop before Virodyne ships could return to reclaim it. The station is now run day to day by the Concordant under Novacrypt’s ownership, with the crew offered a contractor deal rather than treated as trespassers.
