Viktor Strake is Virodyne Labs’s top risk management officer, a ruthless enforcer tasked with protecting the corporation’s interests at any cost. A genetically modified human, he carries a spotless professional record and something of a reputation in Virodyne circles: “Everyone knows Victor.”

He’s easy to pick out of a crowd: shaven sides with long blond hair on top, brown eyes, a square-cut jaw, and a jet-black Virodyne Labs uniform trimmed in white. His manner is cocky and arrogant, with a theatrical streak: the kind of man who slow-claps and grins even while losing.

Strake is a recurring thorn in the crew’s side, and there’s a standing mystery around just how many of him there are. Felix Champlin killed a Strake on the bridge of The Scapegoat, only for what appeared to be the same man to be seen exiting a stealth fighter moments later. His ship, The Acceptable Loss, has been found carrying one or two duplicate bodies in stasis. Whether these are clones, backups, or something else has never been explained on-air.

He first appeared in Episodes 7-8, arriving at Wafisa aboard a triangular stealth ship with a small team of Omnitek Holdings soldiers, having traced the crew by following Dr. Elara Voss’s hack when her power went down. He caught up with them at Blackharbor shortly after.

In Episode 18, a Strake (or a duplicate) attacked the crew at the Helium Docks on The Spigot with a squad of drones.

He resurfaced in the Episode 20 epilogue, looming over an unconscious Haleyy as she briefly stirred, telling her “I had no idea how valuable you were” while the rest of the crew, bound nearby, could only watch.

In Episode 21, Strake captured the crew at Sibylen, seized Dr. Elara Voss’s orb, and locked the crew inside their own ship using Omnitek’s admin override codes.

By Episode 28, Causeway 3 transit logs (recovered by Felix from the first security layer of the Causeway 3 server room) confirmed that The Acceptable Loss had passed through the routing station en route to Prometheon Technologies, with Voss still aboard.

Strake’s known gear includes a laser pistol and a physical Virodyne admin key capable of locking down The Scapegoat and handing Virodyne control of the ship.

When the crew boarded Prometheon Station (Ep 31), Strake watched them from a glassed-in control room as they fled a horde of Unhallowed across a catwalk, keying a nearby radio to needle them: “the Scapegoaters… welcome to Prometheon Station. I’m surprised to see that you’ve made it this far,” followed by “I think you’re arriving very late, actually. Almost too late, but it’s almost time. Let’s just say you’re in for one hell of a ride.” He let them keep running rather than intervening directly.

Still trapped in the loop in Episode 32, Strake worked his own angle rather than the Listeners’. He left Thorne a handwritten note proposing they work together since their goals didn’t have to conflict, and later killed five Listeners, including their leader Sabien, to clear the crew’s path to the station’s admin wing, leaving only a note reading “you’re welcome” on the bodies. In that same office, the crew found a framed photograph of Victor Saren that showed him with Strake’s exact face, roughly forty years older, a resemblance too close to be coincidence.

On the station’s final, unraveling loop (Ep 33), Strake was waiting unarmed at the admin office door when Thorne and Iso arrived, insisting he was stranded, harmless, and only wanted to survive alongside them. He let Thorne in and offered to help at the terminal, but the two men came to blows over control of it as a gas alarm tripped. When the office wall tore open into vacuum mid-struggle, Strake gave Thorne one last chance to stand down; both men fired at once. Strake’s shot put a laser clean through Thorne, but Thorne’s shot landed first, blowing off Strake’s mag boots and sending him tumbling out into the gyroscope’s reach, vaporized by its void lightning. Unlike every previous encounter, no duplicate or clone turned up afterward. Whatever his connection to Victor Saren actually was, it died with him unanswered.
