Reginald “Froggy” Vance, known for years over the airwaves as “The Voice of the Wastes,” is a companion of the crew of The Scapegoat. A man in his upper forties with a peculiar, frog-like demeanor (a lopsided walk, a habit of crouching slightly, a croaky voice, and a sickly greenish pallor), he was found hiding in the DJ booth of WK9078 Radio Station on Wafisa in Episode 6, where he’d spent fifteen years broadcasting to whoever would listen while trying (and failing) to fix the station’s generator.

Froggy grew up on Wafisa and was a childhood friend of Vera Corbin. His father was killed in a skirmish with the Guardians when Froggy was young, and his mother later died under Blackharbor’s harsh living conditions, sending him fleeing into the dead megacity to become a hermit. He stayed in touch with Vera over the Exo-Net after she left for Sibylen, until the Guardians shut the network down on Wafisa, cutting off contact for twenty-five years. He found his way to the dead megacity that had been Wafisa’s capital and eventually settled into the radio station, keeping a pet rat named Ratty for company until Ratty’s death not long before the crew found him.

The crew helped repair his radio tower, and he joined the crew of the Scapegoat around Episodes 6-7. He was shot in the chest by Omnitek Holdings soldiers shortly after and stabilized with a Lazarus patch by Robert. Aboard ship, he keeps a hidden living space tucked into the cargo bay, and secretly owns a cat named Percy, picked up as a kitten from a truck stop without the rest of the crew’s knowledge. He enjoys playing with Robert’s Lokipon cards, though his habit of licking his fingers and crumpling them tends to ruin the deck, and he struggles with anxiety underground.

After the Void Cultists attack on the Sibylen auction in Episode 21, Froggy retreated to his room, badly shaken, and was turned Unhallowed during the chaos. In Episode 23, the crew found him zombified in the exosite goo pool room, eyes blank and face wet with tears, carrying alien debris under the direction of Rynn Kade. When Haleyy discovered she could command the Unhallowed, she ordered Froggy to sit in a corner and gave him the task of looking after his cat, Percy. He followed the direct order, though verbal commands alone couldn’t snap him fully out of the Unhallowed state.

As of Episode 28, Froggy remains Unhallowed, refusing to leave his nest aboard the ship and repeatedly calling out for Vera. Dr. Iso has been unable to get through to him. The orb containing Vera’s merged consciousness is aboard the ship under lock by Felix. Amid the tension, Robert asked Iso to cut off Froggy’s hands if he touched the Lokipon cards again, prompting Thorne to defend him.

Froggy’s declining mental state has remained an ongoing concern for the rest of the crew since Sibylen.
